DAY 1We meet at Gatwick Airport for our direct scheduled Easyjet mid afternoon flight to Basel Mulhouse Airport. On arrival we are met by our tour manager and travel by private midi coach to our chosen hotel in Colmar for a four night stay. A set three course dinner with a ⅓ of a bottle of house wine per person is included at a carefully selected local restaurant on our first and last evenings, and the remaining two nights are on a bed and breakfast basis.
DAY 2We spend the day in Colmar, the capital of the Alsatian wine producing area. This morning we enjoy an included 25 minute flat bottomed boat trip through ‘Little Venice’, a picturesque area in the heart of the old city. We then spend some time at leisure in Colmar, and on an individual basis you may choose to visit the Bartholdi Museum, the birthplace of the creator of the Statue of Liberty. Our afternoon guided walking tour of Colmar takes in sights such as the House of Heads, Pfister House, Bartholdi House, and Adolph House. We then continue to the former Tanner’s district, dating from the 17th Century, and rue de la Poissonnerie. We then visit the famous Unterlinden Museum. During our guided tour we discover the famous Issenheim Altarpiece, Schongauer’s paintings, and Gothic Upper Rhine art.

DAY 3We explore the Alsatian Wine Route today, famed for its villages in bloom, medieval towns, rolling hillside vineyards, and wine cellars. During our scenic drive we enjoy an included tour and tasting at a carefully selected wine cellar. We then spend some time at leisure for lunch in Riquewihr, a member of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. We continue to nearby Ribeauvillé, where we spend the rest of the day at leisure. On an individual basis you may choose to visit the Beauvillé shop, famous for its luxury table cloths, and household linen products.
DAY 4 and DAY 5Day 4: During our walking guided tour of Strasbourg this morning we see sights including the Maison Kammerzell, Place Gutenberg, St Thomas church, and the Covered Bridges. We also visit Strasbourg Cathedral, a shining example of Gothic architecture, and famous for its Astronomical Clock and its statues. This afternoon we visit Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg. Since its construction in the 12th century, the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle has been a constant witness to both European conflicts and rivalry between lords, kings and emperors. A number of illustrious owners each left their mark on the castle's history, and successive events even led to changes in the castle's structure.
Day 5: Today we visit Cité de l’Automobile in Mulhouse, the largest car museum in the world showcasing 400 classic, prestige and racing cars which trace the history of the automobile. We continue to Basel Mulhouse Airport for our direct scheduled Easyjet early evening flight back to Gatwick. |
