Boughton House is one of Britain's grandest and best-preserved stately homes. Upon visiting you will uncover the story of how once simple Tudor manor was transformed over the centuries into a treasure filled French style palace, earning it the title "The English Versailles".
Most of the present building is the work of Ralph Montagu, 1st Duke of Montagu (d.1709) who inherited the house in 1683. Ralph Montagu was a patron of many Huguenot craftspeople. Inside you will find a beautiful home, rich in the decorative arts: the walls and floors adorned with tapestries, painting masterpieces by El Greco, Van Dyck and Gainsborough and 16th century carpets.
