Remembering Napoleon III at Camden Place

On 10th January 2023, members of the Franco-British Society visited Camden Place in Chislehurst for a day of fascinating talks and tours as part of a week of commemorations in remembrance of 150th death of Napoleon III who was exiled at Camden Place and died there on 9th January 1873.
Programme of the day
10.00 – Unlocking the Secrets of Camden Place
Welcome tea/coffee followed by Camden Place house tour and talk by Angela Hatton
12.30 – Lunch followed by a guided visit of the Church (where Napoleon III was buried) & PI memorial
14.00 – Napoleon III in exile. A Diplomatic Dilemma for Britain
Talk by Frances Foster (local historian who completed her dissertation on Diplomatic Dilemmas in Britain relating to the Imperial Family)
and Joanna Friel (historian, author and chair of the Chislehurst Society)
15.00 - Tour of the house
