Franco-British Society

The society is an independent charitable organisation, privileged to have Her Majesty The Queen as its patron. Founded in 1924, although its roots go back to the Entente Cordiale at the beginning of the 20th century, it is dedicated to encouraging closer relations between Britain and France. The Franco-British society acts a focus for those individuals, groups and companies who wish to keep in touch with France, her culture, history and current affairs.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sir Christopher Mallaby, British Ambassador to France from January 1993 to July 1996, member and former Speaker of the Franco-British Society.  He was the first ambassador from London to arrive in post in Paris (January 1993) by land since the union of the crowns in 1603, when James VI of Scotland also became James I of England. His obituary is in The Times today, 7 March 2022.
